To begin, let’s start from the basic idea of what shapes our experience of life as humans. From the time we are born, until about the age of five, we are in an ongoing process of developing and forming our views, or perceptions, of the world around us. The views or perceptions then form the beliefs we have about life. Those beliefs form the basis of how we experience life.
Our perceptions are influenced by many, many
factors that we observe and experience in our environment such as the people we
are surrounded by and the programming and pressures to comply with the
requirements of society. We are constantly
observing and responding to everything around us, forming opinions, making
decisions, and drawing conclusions about everything in life.
When the perceptions and conclusions that
are formed are accepted as what is true, that truth is established as a belief.
Regardless of whatever the perception or conclusion may have been. When something is accepted as true, and
established as a belief, it is recorded by the subconscious as a belief system,
and stored in a special area of the subconscious as a system of instructions.
These are the instructions the subconscious follows to then create the basis
for that person’s experience of life.
Around the age of five years, the process
switches from recording the belief systems that have been formed, and begins
creating experiences that correspond to whatever is contained in the belief
systems. The subconscious interacts with
the universe to provide experiences that fulfill or demonstrate the content of
the belief systems. The events that a
person then experiences serve as a type of confirmation of the beliefs that
were formed, Even though most people later in life have no conscious memory of
choosing those beliefs.
The subconscious works much like the
operating system on a computer. It manages all of the automatic actions needed
for the system to function. And it
manages the memory system, which includes a system of files which contain the
instructions for how the system is to produce results. The files of instructions
contain those belief systems that were formed during the “configuration period”
from birth to age five. The system of instruction files are kept in a special
area in the system that is “protected” from tampering, much like a firewall on
a computer. This is apparently like a
safety feature that prevents the key system files from being altered
accidently, or from outside sources.
However, the “protected” system files are essentially invisible to the
user, or in our scenario, the person in question.
So, the “system” produces results that correspond
to whatever information is contained in the “instruction” files, or what we
have referred to as the fundamental belief system. Although, the process is
mostly invisible to the “end user” who only sees the results, and is not aware
of the source, or cause of the results they see. So, if a person formed beliefs that were
healthy and favorable and supportive, that work well with the world we live in,
then they will experience conditions that reflect those views. However, if a person formed beliefs based on
misperceptions, limitations or negative emotional experiences, that person will
experience life as an expression of those views. Regardless, each individual will perceive
“the picture of life” that is produced by their unique set of belief systems, as
being “what is true” about life and reality.
So far we have only been talking about
beliefs, which is only one of three primary aspects that combine to form our
experience of life. The other two
aspects that form the experience of life, aside from the basic physical aspect,
is emotions and thoughts or perceptions.
Feelings and emotions are of the emotional aspect of being. Thoughts and
perceptions are of the mind, or mental aspect of being. And, beliefs (or what has been chosen or
accepted as true) form the spiritual or causal aspect of being. These three primary aspects combine together
to interact with the universe to produce what we perceive as the experience of
physical reality. (as expressed in the
eastern holistic model of ; Body, mind , spirit)
