I’ve been talking about subconscious patterns, and subconscious programs, but, what are we really talking about, and why is it a big deal? Well, it’s a big deal because it is probably the biggest factor that determines our experience of life.
I suspect most people have heard the words subconscious, but
not many really have an understanding of what that is, or what it means about
how it influences life. So, to begin with let’s try to mention a few
basics. The subconscious is the part of
our consciousness that manages everything.
On a physical level, it manages all those necessary processes that keep
the body working, like respiration, blood flow, coordinating movement, mobility,
and all the other automatic functions that make living in a body possible. But there is much more involved.
The subconscious also manages our life on a more subtle
level. It manages memory. It manages all the functions and skills involved in
performing our day to day activities. It manages all the subroutines that make
most of the mundane activities we perform as part of everyday life, an
automatic process, such as walking, talking, brushing our teeth, washing the
dishes, driving the car, cleaning the house, doing the laundry, and all the other
everyday tasks that we take for granted, that we are able to do
automatically. Consider what it would be
like if we had to stop and concentrate on how to perform all those “routine”
things we do every day. The subconscious manages all of the functions that need
to happen to just perform those activities automatically.
And, on a more subtle level, the subconscious manages most
of what we think of as our conscious mind.
The subconscious inhabits the majority of our consciousness. If we were
to think of how an iceberg has a small portion that is above the surface of the
water, and the vast majority of its mass is below the surface of the water, as
a comparison, our conscious awareness part of the mind, would be the part of
the iceberg above the water, and the subconscious would be the part of the
iceberg that is below the water.
The subconscious could be thought of as being similar to the
operating system on a computer. It is what is behind the scenes, making it
possible for everything to happen. The computer’s operating system manages the
disk drive, the memory storage, the motherboard, the various components, the
equipment, and the processes that are needed for the software to function and
produce all the different types of results that the computer produces. The
operating system is what makes it all work.
The operating system on the computer is composed of a
complex system of programs that control all of the various types of functions
that need to happen for the computer to function and produce the intended
results. There is a set of system programs that control how the system itself
functions, which are called critical system files, or programs. These critical
system files function behind the scenes, and are not given access to the user,
often without the user being aware of them. There are many other things that the operating
system on the computer manages, that are relevant to our example, but this may
get the discussion started.
With that simplified example of the operating system on a
computer, let’s consider a clumsy analogy of the subconscious being similar in
many ways to the operating system on the computer. The subconscious manages the data storage and
memory. It manages all of the automatic processes necessary for the hardware to
function. And it manages all of the processes that are needed for the software
to function and produce results.
As with the operating system for the computer, which has a
series of critical system files, also referred to as configuration files, which
manages how the computer system functions, The subconscious also has a set of
critical system files, which also function like configuration files, that I
call the fundamental belief system, and manages the results that the system
produces, which we know as our experience of human life.
So, to continue the analogy, when a computer is brand new, and
is first started, there is some process needed to set up the computer. It is
usually about choosing preferences of how the computer should operate. This is often done by a technician, so many
home users may not be familiar with this part. Settings need to be chosen, and
various capabilities need to be designated. We might call this process a
configuration period. As another similar analogy, for many video games, when
first started, the user is prompted to go through a process to choose the
capabilities and characteristics of the avatar for the user’s character. This
process is also called a configuration process.
Now let’s compare with the other side of our analogy. When a human is born, there is a process for
the first several years, of making interpretations, forming perceptions, making
decisions, and choosing beliefs. These
conclusions and choices are being monitored and recorded by the subconscious
operating system, and installed as the configuration files for the operating
system. These configuration files become
the basis which the subconscious operating system will follow to produce the
results of the system, being what we would say is the person’s experience of
life.
Now, over the years, as I have tried to find ways to
describe these ideas to people, it has seemed like some people did not respond
well to the idea of being described like a computer system. So if I offend you by describing the human
experience as being like a computer system, my apologies. But, it’s true. Over
many years of studying many types of resources, I have found that certain
principles hold true, at least within the context of this holographic
environment we call the earth plane.
What we think of as our “selves,” usually limited to the physical form,
is only a vessel, that is intended to provide a means for consciousness to have
the experience, somewhat like a vehicle, and our consciousness is the driver.
Our vessel is meant
to provide a way for our consciousness to interact with this environment. It
just so happens our vessel comes with a highly complex operating system. And, the operating system determines how the
vessel will interact with the universe. And, the configuration of the operating
system determines how the system will perform, and the result it produces. Therein is the nature of the conditions that
are experienced as life.
So, what does this have to do with our experience of life? Everything,
Because, the conclusions that a person forms during the configuration period of
the first six years or so, becomes those configuration files, which the
subconscious operating system follows, or executes, to produce the experience
that occurs. It becomes how life is experienced. The conclusions become the instructions that
the subconscious conveys to the universe, and the universe provides conditions
which correspond to whatever the contents of the configuration files are. And, we experience life according to whatever
is contained in the initial configuration files.
So, there might still be an attitude of “So what? What’s the
big deal?” Well, if a person was born
into a healthy supportive environment, and made choices that formed healthy,
supportive belief systems, then their experience of life will probably be just
fine, and, for them, it’s not such a big deal.
But, on the other hand, if for whatever reasons, a person chose belief
systems during the initial configuration period, that were not so healthy and
supportive, it makes a big deal in the kind of experience of life the person
has.
If a person chose initial belief systems that are negative,
limiting, or self-defeating, they will have a completely different kind of life
experience. If a person chose belief
systems of scarcity, limitation, not good enough, not loved, not accepted,
abandoned, not worthy, don’t deserve, or, I’m bad, or no good, or an infinite
variety of versions of I’m not ok, those beliefs that were accepted become the
configuration files that give the subconscious the instructions of what kind of
reality to manifest as the person’s experience of life.
